William Bartram Notes

 William Bartram dedicated his time to his personal interests which led him to become and important person who has contributed to science and history. His passion for observing nature and drawing scenes of the flowers and birds that he studied helped classify hundreds of species in both categories. When William arrived in Florida he discovered a land filled with natural beauty and treasure and made it his mission to become familiar with these parts. Growing up, his father wanted him to secure a future that would guarantee him of stability and didn’t think that studying flowers or drawing them would provide such future for William. However, not only did he end up making a living through his hobbies, he also found the most treasured thing we all search for, inner peace. He found his peace while finding himself through his studies. Through discovery of his own self and his explorations of Florida he was able to connect with natives and their land and tell a story through his drawings. William Bartram’s contribution to science and history has allowed us to open a window to a time that we did not know. Never give up on your dreams!
