Final post.
The knowledge of Florida history that I have gained from taking this course has left me with more than what I expected I would get from this class. The assignment we were given to draw the map of Florida for example, helped me understand where many important rivers, ports, and cities are located. Which led me to better identify certain locations mentioned in the book, A Land Remembered. This book was able to give me a deeper insight into the reality of the amount of hard work and motivation needed to raise a family in the 1800s. Using this book as a tool for learning was a great way to experience a lot of what we learned in class through a story. Also, learning the different dynamics of race that made up Florida teaches us a part of history that the majority of us may have been confused about. We are now able to tell the story of how the British, Spanish, different native tribes and black men and women contributed to the history of Florida. Writing from a historian's perspective was challenging but taught me to ask questions from a different point of view. Instead of just stating facts we were learning to dig deeper into our research to be able to form our own opinions and express ourselves in a manner that would both interest others and be informative but in a creative way. I have gained a lot of knowledge in this class, not only about the history of Florida but also about how to express myself better in writing.
